At Vision Care, we endeavour to provide a thorough and professional service to all our patients. Your eye examination is completed using tested medical methods and our cutting-edge technology ensures that you receive a comprehensive, thorough eye care service.
A typical eye test at Vision Care lasts for half an hour. During this time, your dedicated optometrist will conduct a variety of tests to identify any issues of concern.
We appreciate that eye care is complicated. Our optical team is trained to be able to answer any queries you may have throughout the process.
We offer digital retinal photography that will allow us to photograph the inside of the eye, particularly the retina.
This provides a permanent record of the eye which can be used for comparison at later visits.
Retinal photography gives us the opportunity to detect, view and monitor early signs of any sight-threatening eye conditions. Our state-of-the-art retinal cameras help the early detection of problems such as macular degeneration, glaucoma retinal detachments and diabetic retinopathy. These conditions commonly affect hundreds of thousands of people in the UK; the sooner they are detected, the sooner we can suggest a solution.
This is a test which you may be advised to have if we are concerned that your peripheral vision might have been damaged. This is especially important if you have a family history of glaucoma, if you have had a stroke, or if you have unexplained headaches.
The test is carried out using a sophisticated computerised instrument called a Visual Field Analyser.
Both the retinal photograph and visual field assessment is available on request.
Following your examination, our optical team will provide you with an optical prescription for your records and will be happy to talk you through it if you would like.
At Vision Care Optometrists we have a wealth of experience in contact lenses and as an optician and contact lens specialist, we can guide you through the variety of lenses available to find you a type tailored to your lifestyle and needs.

Who Can Wear Contact Lenses? What Age Can You Start?
Almost anyone can wear contact lenses, whatever their age or lifestyle. There is no age limit, it just depends if the optician believes someone is mature and capable enough to wear lenses. At Vision Care, we’ll talk you through the process and help you decide whether contact lenses are appropriate for you or your child.
I’ve Never Worn Lenses, How Do I Put Them In?
When you book a trial with us, we’ll show you how to put them in and take them out, go over do’s and don'ts and answer any questions you may have. Before you leave, we'll make sure you're confident with your new lenses, and we'll keep in touch afterwards to make sure you're getting on with them.
Are They Comfortable?
Technology has improved over the years, so if you have tried lenses previously and didn’t get on with them, why not have a second go? Today's lenses are made with high-tech materials, like silicone hydrogel, that lets lots more oxygen into your eye, ensuring adequate hydration and comfort. Contact lenses are now so comfortable you wouldn’t even know you’re wearing them. Book in with us at Vision Care to try it for yourself!
I Have Reading Glasses, Can I Wear Contact Lenses?
There are ways around this! You may need a different prescription for distance and reading but that’s not a problem. We can offer you a contact lens that’s like a varifocal or bifocal allowing you to see at all distances! Vision Care stocks a wide range of multifocal contact lensesbook in for a trial today!
Can I Play Sports in Contact Lenses?
Yes! Contact lenses are great for sports. They can enhance visual skills like depth perception, peripheral awareness, and hand-eye coordination. Unlike glasses, contacts offer athletes a competitive advantage because they stay in place under dynamic conditions, provide a wider vision field, and eliminate the risk of glasses-related injuries. Contact lenses also make it easy to wear protective goggles.
Can I Have Coloured Lenses Even If I Don’t Need Glasses?
Yes! We stock lots of different colours from natural colours to funky violets and turquoises for those of you who like to stand out!
